SCVCR Endorses Kellar for City Council

IMGP2241All five candidates for Santa Clarita City Council -- Mayor Laurie Ender, Councilman Bob Kellar, and Candidates TimBen Boydston, Ed Colley and Jon Hatami -- took to the stage at the Repertory East Playhouse to participate in our City Council Candidates Roundtable Discussion on Monday, Feb. 27. The event was moderated by Joe Messina. Three days later, during the SCV Congress of Republicans' regularly scheduled meeting, the board of directors voted unanimously to endorse Kellar's bid for re-election. The board did not endorse any other candidate, since none attained the two-thirds majority vote required for endorsement.

America Must Change Direction!

The best way you can help win the fight for America’s future is by supporting the one organization that is doing more than any other conservative group to elect GOP candidates at all levels of government and make Barack Obama a one-term president: The Republican National Committee (RNC). The only way we can turn our nation around and get America on a sustainable path to economic growth and prosperity is to expand our GOP majority in the House, recapture the Senate and elect a Republican president in 2012.

Convention Generates Hollywood Buzz

CCR111440LargeThe California Congress of Republicans Annual Statewide Convention in Valencia in January generated some news in The Hollywood Reporter, whose Paul Bond covered the "Celebrities & Hollywood's Influence on Media and Elections" panel. Panelists included actors Clint Howard and Morgan Brittany, both of whom shared stories of being conservative Republicans working in an industry dominated by intolerant liberals. "If the entertainment industry should turn on me, I'd say, 'Well, fine.' But for young conservatives (working in Hollywood), you may hear me speak out, but let me tell you: Be careful," said Howard, whose older brother is actor-filmmaker Ron Howard. Brittany told a story about working with Ed Asner, who, once he discovered she was a Republican, refused to even speak with her. "From that moment on, he never spoke to me again -- except on stage. This is what we're dealing with: The intolerance of the left," Brittany said. The Hollywood Reporter story ranked as one of the top-10 most-read stories on the paper's website for several days, and it generated a response from Asner himself. The convention, co-hosted by the Hollywood and Santa Clarita Valley chapters of the CCR, was held at the Embassy Suites Valencia on Jan. 28 to 30.

GOP Gains Control of House, Key Posts

backagainin2010President Obama and the Democrats received a strong message and clear indictment of many of their policies and programs on Election Day 2010. Republicans gained at least 60 seats in the House, while Democrats held a slight edge in the Senate but suffered significant losses overall that just about put both parties on equal footing. We congratulate all of our Republican candidates, whether they won or not, because they put themselves out there for something they believe in. Great job, everyone! Election Results

History Refresher: GOP Accomplishments

acm016Did you know that Republicans were the ones who freed the slaves. Republicans also passed the 14th Amendment that guaranteed due process and equal protection of the laws to all citizens. The original purpose of the 14th Amendment was to defend African-Americans from their Democrat oppressors in the post-Civil War South. The principal author of the 14th Amendment was U.S. Rep. John Bingham (R-OH). In Congress, all votes in favor of the 14th Amendment were from Republicans, and all votes against it were from Democrats. Republicans also are responsible for the passage of the 15th Amendment, which extended the right to vote to African-Americans. In 1869, the Republican-controlled 40th Congress passed this amendment, with nearly all Republicans in Congress voting in favor, though a few abstained, saying it did not go far enough. Nearly all Democrats in Congress voted against it. The 15th Amendment was ratified the following year, but Democrats prevented most African-Americans from voting for nearly a century by using intimidation, poll taxes, registration fraud and literacy tests against them.
